A few years ago I made a Homemade Laundry Detergent but things have evolved and so have I and this is my new project – Homemade Laundry Detergent Powder. Boy oh boy do I wish I had smell-o-vision to share with you guys how awesome this stuff smells. I made it in my kitchen and now it’s making it smell good in there too. Smart move!
The ingredients needed to make this are not expensive although you need quite a bit to make a batch.
Ingredients For Homemade Laundry Detergent Powder
Fels Naptha
This has been around for centuries and is a proven stain fighter. Plus it smells good, isn’t expensive and is available everywhere.
Lemon Essential Oil
Adding lemon to my laundry detergent not only made it smell good but it also works as a great natural cleaner. I recommend the Young Living brand. you’ll also find Thieves is an awesome oil to help disinfect and is a great one to add to your arsenal of natural living!
Borax
Borax also is known as sodium borate, sodium tetraborate or disodium tetraborate. It is one of the most important boron compounds and can be found in laundry booster, certain hand soaps and in some toothpastes. Borax has many uses on its own, plus it is an ingredient in other products.
Washing Soda
Washing soda is a highly alkaline chemical compound that can be used to remove stubborn stains from laundry. It also has numerous uses around the house, and it is used in a range of industrial applications as well. In laundry, washing soda accomplishes several things. The high alkalinity of washing soda helps it act as a solvent to remove a range of stains, and unlike bleach, washing soda does not usually stain. It is also used in detergent mixtures to treat hard water which helps make this a great recipe for your front loading washer as well.
Baking Soda
I’ve heard it said that if you just had bakinbg soda, vinegar and lemon you could clean a whole house and while I’m not totally convinced, I do use baking soda in a TON of my homemade recipes.
Oxi Clean
Our of all the stain fighters out there Oxi Clean is the most natural but it’s expensive….unless you buy the dollar store version and use that instead as I did!
Those are the ingredients and what I believe makes this an awesome recipe. It’s simple to make too:
