Homemade Diaper Pail Freshener

So the reason for a Homemade Diaper Pail Freshener. Well, let me tell you a story…..

My kids are out of diapers but boy do I remember the smell! One day I was out at a leisurely lunch with my girlfriend with Isaac and her son in tow. We were new Mums but we had this down.

Sitting in Cozi eating salads, talking, reaching for sippy cups, talking….reaching for food being thrown….on and on it went.

Then all of a sudden….

I heard this gigantic noise coming from Isaac. Yup, you know the one. Undeterred I picked him up and headed for the bathroom only to realize he’d blown out his diaper and through his uber cute clothing. His cute little khakis were covered in yellow poop. Yack-o.

Again no problemo! I had a spare outfit because I was a pro.

That’s when I realized…my spare outfit was a yellow fleece pair of pjs and it was warm out. So we strolled around the upscale mall after with Isaac in his yellow jammies and haughty taughty Grandmas giving me the “roll eye- does she not know how hot it is out?” stare. Ya’ll know the one. 🙁

The point is  that there ain’t no smell like a newborn poop smell and if your nursery is small there’s just no getting around that stink except with a good diaper pail deodorizer. This Homemade Diaper Pail Freshener is chemical free, pleasant smelling and cheap!

Homemade Diaper Pail Freshener

  • 1 cup of baking soda
  • 1 TBS water
  • Young Living Peppermint essential oil. Buy that here: http://mummydeals.org/essential-oils/

  1. Add the baking soda into a bowl and add water. You may need a little more just to make more of a crumbly paste.
  2. Add 4-6 drops of oil.
  3. Pour into a container with a shaker (an old parmesan cheese container will work great)
  4. Shake a little into the pail or even into the garbage bag each time. You could even use this with cloth diapers.
  5. Lavender oil will work well too!
